since i finally got our christmas decorations just the way i wanted, i thought it would be good to document it because 1. i've never cared much about this kind of stuff and am happy that i finally put some effort into it and 2. i need to remember this for next year.
so starting with our tree, which is alive and has the root ball intact. this is not the perfect tree, but it is the tree that will keep on giving since it will live in our yard forever when we plant it. so in that sense it is perfect for us (and perfect for the purpose it will serve of contributing to nature and blocking the junk in our neighbors yard from view)
this is my grandma's christmas village. she loved this village and i'm so honored to now be the proud owner. i think of her everyday when i look at it and know that she is looking down from heaven and smiling at her little village in my house, where her great grandson can admire it and play with the little fake trees. (the little fake people are in a drawer cause they are a toddler no no)
we have this huge tree on the right front corner of our house so i hung these large (target) ornaments on it and illuminated with a spot light. thanks daniel stowe botanical gardens for this idea!
the front porch urns have tomato stakes turned upside down and strung with large C9 bulbs:
the maple in the front is our "party tree". we had to get this deer for buxton cause our neighbors have 2 and he talks about them all the time. now he has his own deer and he will sit on the couch looking out the widow at it for an unusually long time.
the same neighbors (with the deer) also have the best tree decorations i've ever seen in a yard. simple but beautiful. it is white balls of light (chicken wire shaped in a ball with lights strung around it) placed in the trees all over the yard. so when you drive down our street you see these beautiful balls of lights that seem to be floating in the trees. and since their house is at the end of the cul-de-sac you get to see them as soon as you turn on the street.
this picture does not do it justice but i had to give you and idea:
for years i've said that we would do the same balls of lights so all the trees/bushes in the cul-de-sac would be lit up. this year, this week, last night we finally got some balls of lights put up. thank you to my sweet husband (who barely has 10 free min in his day since he works 70 hours a week) for making this happen for me. it is silly but these lights make me so happy. so happy that they may be up until spring.

and on to more important things, like the reason for the season, i have to share some buxton sweetness. thanks to the best advent calendar in the world, we've been able to encourage buxton's understanding of the meaning of christmas. we played with it before december started (which is what jenn told me to do and she's also the one that told me about this calendar) and talked about all the characters in the story. so now as the story unfolds each night buxton is familiar with the characters and "gets it" a little. to hear him say "baby jesus" or "jesus mama" or "jesus dada" makes me the happiest mom in the world. and getting a piece of candy each night makes him the happiest, sweetest boy in the world.
