happy birthday to the one who started it all...

when carla (ben's sis) and her husband ed adopted cooper in july we thought for sure that we wouldn't see them until the holidays...being that they live 8 hours away and have 2 kids. but being the sweet people that they are, they came home last weekend to meet elin. we felt very honored that they used their first long weekend at their new home (in fort campbell, ky) to drive to nc. we had lots of family time with them here, and celebrated grace's 6th birthday on sunday! her bday is a few weeks away but since some of us aren't able to be in ky for it, we had an early party in nc.
when ben and i first started dating he brought me to a family gathering (at the house we live in now) where carla and ed announced that they were going to adopt. it was a very emotional and important day for the family, and honestly one that i shouldn't have been a part of considering how we had just started dating. but now i'm so happy i was part of it cause i've gotten to witness the most awesome blessing of grace coming in to our family from the very start. she was the first grandchild, now there are 7. grace is so sweet, so smart, and always a joy to be around. she can melt your heart and make you laugh all day long.

here is ben's dad and step-mom (doris) with all but 2 of their grandchildren. hunter is in howdy's lap, and he is doris' son's (brandon) child from his first marriage. doris is holding cooper with grace to her left, which are carla and ed's kids. then you have elin snoozing in the back and buxton next to grace. missing are brandon's new baby, rivers (girl) with his 2nd wife, tanneal, and tanneal's son, brooks.
these next 3 pics are hilarious:

finally a somewhat decent one:
buxton was so excited to celebrate grace! he loves her so much.
elin arrived fashionably late to the party cause she had to eat as soon as we arrived, but then she was a very good guest, not making a peep.
cooper loves his big sister and he is SOOO lucky to have her.
i feel the most lucky of all though because i have the best niece in the whole wide world. happy birthday grace, i love you sweet girl!
